Largo Middle principal named a finalist for 2019 Florida Principal of the Year

Linda Burris, principal of Largo Middle School, has been named a Florida Department of Education 2019 Principal of the Year Finalist. Burris is one of three principals chosen as a finalist. Burris has led Largo Middle School through several positive and impactful changes. Under her principalship, Largo Middle made academic improvements, increased mentorship for struggling students and expanded professional development for teachers through the High Reliability Teacher Certification Program.
Prior to leading Largo Middle, Burris was principal of Clearwater Fundamental Middle School and has served as an assistant principal of Thurgood Marshall Middle School. She was also a classroom teacher in Pinellas County.
The Florida Department of Education will name the 2019 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership Program at the State Board of Education meeting in Tallahassee on Tuesday, March 19. The 2019 Principal of the Year will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000. Two state finalists will receive a check for $1,500. Candidates for these awards were nominated by the superintendent from their respective school districts.
