Morgan Fizgerald Middle team selected for Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

The team will represent the district in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 22-25 at Michigan State University.

They were selected for their Structure Toss performance at the Florida Odyssey State Tournament on April 5-6. For their creativity they received a special award called the Ranatra Fusca Award.

In the Structure Toss competition, teams design and build structures made only of balsa wood. Teams test their structures in a performance, using a device to toss them for score.

Morgan Fitzgerald's project was accompanied by a performance with original music.

"The team's level of coordination and precision, while rapping and rhyming, kept the judges completely enthralled. It offered the most unique delivery of a skit that the judges have seen, demonstrating a superior level of creativity and performance," the judges wrote in their nomination form.

At the World Finals, about 800 teams will represent their areas in the largest creative problem-solving program in the world.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides problem-solving opportunities for students in kindergarten through college. Teams from throughout the U.S. and more than 20 other countries participate in the program.
