New student center a welcoming place for Dixie Hollins High students
Feb. 13, 2020
Dixie Hollins High School held a grand opening Wednesday night for its new Rebels Student Center. The area formally housed an adult school. Now, it is a welcoming and relaxing area for Dixie Hollins High students.
“The Student Center is the embodiment of a vision to create a space for our students to have as their own to use before school, during lunch and as an incentive reward for teachers to use with their classes,” said Robert Florio, Dixie Hollins High’s principal. “Equipped with a fully functional cafe and multimedia capabilities, it is the perfect spot for students to hang out with friends, share a coffee and a story, get information on school events or look up information on colleges and careers.”
The Rebels Student Center also includes a computer room, ping pong and foosball tables, games, and high top and lounge chairs that are equipped with power outlets and USB ports.
In addition to school, community and corporate sponsors, four former Dixie Hollins High School principals also joined the celebration. Charley Williams Jr. was the school’s principal from 1981-89; John Mclay from 1994-2000; Michael Bohnet from 2004-2010; and Dr. Dan Evans from 2010-2015. Florio has led the school since 2015.
Students from Dixie Hollins High’s Culinary Arts Academy catered Wednesday evening’s event.
