Azalea Elementary School receives Start With Hello Week Award from Sandy Hook Promise

Feb. 28, 2020

Start with Hello - Sandy Hook Promise The Award of Excellence was presented to the school on Wednesday.

To qualify for the awards, schools must demonstrate active student leadership, creativity, broad community reach, and concrete plans and a commitment to sustain the Start With Hello program long-term.

Students at Azalea Elementary organized the SAVE Promise Club from Sandy Hook Promise to help spread empathy using three steps: See Someone Alone, Reach Out and Help, Start with Hello. Students teach these steps through engaging school activities that build empathy and empower students. The  school also submitted a video that showed how the word, “Hello,” builds community, breaks barriers and helps prevent school violence.

Azalea Elementary is one of three winners in the Southeast region!

Sandy Hook Promise is a national non-profit organization aimed at preventing violence in schools.
