This award recognizes PTAs that demonstrate exemplary work in diversity and inclusion and a commitment to outreach to all families. This award is presented to one state PTA, one district/region/council PTA and one local PTA.

National PTA was founded in the spirit of diversity and inclusion. This year, the PTA celebrates the 50th anniversary of unification of the National PTA and the National Association of Colored Parents and Teachers, founded by Selena Sloan Butler.

Jan Harp Domene served as National PTA President from 2007-2009 and was a true champion for diversity and inclusion. National PTA established the Jan Harp Domene Award in 2012 to recognize outstanding PTAs across the country that have succeeded and continue to make diversity and inclusion a priority.
