Two Lakewood High seniors were awarded scholarships designated for students in the school’s Center for Journalism and Multimedia program. Leah Broadnax and Rohey Barrow received the Cynda Mort Outstanding Scholastic Journalist Scholarship. They both received $2,000 each. The scholarship was presented by Kevin Mort, the husband of Cynda Mort and Journeys in Journalism Advisory Committee member. Barrow's scholarship was presented virtually.
Rohey Barrow also received the Peggy Peterman Book Scholarship. The $500 scholarship was presented by Peggy’s son Frank Peterman who is a Lakewood High alum and former member of the St. Petersburg City Council and Florida Legislature.
This is the first year that the Peggy Peterman Book Scholarship was presented. Peggy was a 31-year reporter, columnist and editorial writer for the St. Petersburg Times. This is the seventh year for the Cynda Mort Scholarship presentation. Since its inception, $25,000 in scholarship funding has been awarded to graduating seniors.
