Student’s podcast named a finalist in NPR’s national competition
May 19, 2021
Allegra Durst, Clearwater Fundamental Middle School eighth-grader, was named a finalist in the National Public Radio (NPR) 2021 Student Podcast Challenge. There were more than 2,600 podcasts submitted from 47 states and the District of Columbia. Of that number, 12 middle school finalists were named. NPR judges will name two grand-prize winners later this month.
Allegra’s podcast is named Stardew Valley and is loosely based on the video game Stardew Valley were players inherit their grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, players set out to begin their new life. The podcast centers around Annie, a girl who recently moved from the city to a small town. Unfortunately, all her neighbors think she's unstable. They make absurd assumptions that may seem crazier than Annie herself. Listen to the podcast.
