Seminole Middle School recently was recognized as a Model School status for demonstrating the resilience of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). They received a PBIS Resilience Award Tier I Model School for the 2020-2021 school year.
Although the pandemic created new challenges, Seminole Middle sustained the PBIS program and support all students during the pandemic. Digital Citizenship lessons were taught to students via NearPod and PowerPoint which allowed them to participate in the lessons whether they were virtual or in brick and mortar.
Each Monday, teachers facilitated Monday Morning Character Circles. Through Character Circles, teachers promoted the school’s core values of empathy, cooperation, tolerance, perseverance, scholarship, service, leadership, innovation, citizenship and respect for all students through a variety of rich discussions.
This is the first year of the PBIS Resilience Award which recognizes schools for successfully continuing their schools’ PBIS initiatives while also navigating the challenges of the pandemic.
