Four Pinellas students earn prestigious $2,500 National Merit Scholarships

The National Merit® Scholarship Corporation has announced more 2022 winners.

The Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists. The students have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Congratulations to Pinellas County Schools $2,500 National Merit Scholarship Recipients:

  • Sherry M. Habib of Palm Harbor University High; Probable career field: Art History
  • Angela N. Li of Palm Harbor University High; Probable career field: Foreign Service
  • Hailey A. Sherrell of Palm Harbor University High; Probable career field: Law
  • Kasha A. Tyranski of St. Petersburg High; Probable career field: Economics

Merit Scholar Finalist:

  • Sandhya Ganesh of East Lake High School: Probable career in Bio-engineering. 

The scholars were selected based on their academic records, scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), contributions and leadership in school and community activities, essays and recommendations.

Today’s release is the second announcement of winners in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. On April 27, about 1,000 recipients of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards were named, and on June 1 and July 11, some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners will be announced. NMSC is a not-for-profit corporation that was founded in 1955.
