PCS celebrates coaches and student athletes at the annual Athletics Banquet

May 19, 2022

Bob Medici and retired Physical Education Director Nickolas Grasso

Multiple coaches and students received awards at the banquet, which took place Wednesday at Banquet Masters in Clearwater.

At the event, Boca Ciega High Athletic Coordinator Bob Medici was awarded the Nickolas Grasso Leadership Award. Mr. Grasso, who retired in 2017, was the district's former director of PreK-12 Physical Education.

Mr. Medici is an inspiration to the other athletic coordinators, according to Pinellas County Schools Athletics Director Al Bennett. He is dedicated, loyal, compassionate and always willing to mentor his peers. Moreover, he works behind the scenes to make sure athletics run smoothly in Pinellas County.

Two Superintendents Cup awards were announced. The Superintendent’s GPA award went to Palm Harbor University High. And the Superintendent's Cup for the best overall athletics program went to Osceola Fundamental High School.

Alexis Jones of Northeast High was awarded the Mike McPheron Award for the student athlete who has overcome the most challenges.
