PCS Police Chief is a finalist for the 2022 K-12 Campus Safety Director of the Year Award
June 14, 2022
Campus Safety Magazine has selected Chief Luke Williams as one of six finalists for Director of the Year. The award will be announced at the Campus Safety Conference next week. The publication serves campus police chiefs and security directors of schools, universities and hospitals.
Williams, whose law enforcement career has spanned more than 30 years, has been recognized for his innovative approach to school safety and for putting students and their education first. He has defined and improved law enforcement’s role in schools, determining what types of incidents require police involvement and what incidents should be handled by school administrators.
An advocate for youth in the community, he recently helped lead the collection of thousands of foldable duffle bags so that students in foster care have a dignified way to carry their personal belongings from home to home.
Keeping students and staff safe is personal for Chief Williams. He, his wife and children graduated from Pinellas County Schools. Chief Williams was recently featured in a podcast on school safety: See the Campus Safety Magazine Podcast.
