Yara's Painting: The Things I Love  

Yara Jones, a seventh grader at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle, is the PCS 2023 Art in the Capitol competition winner.

She won the award for her beautiful painting titled “The Things I Love.”

The Art in the Capitol Competition is a statewide visual arts competition for students in grades 6 through 8. The winning artworks from each school district are displayed in the Capitol in Tallahassee during the regular legislative session from March 7 to May 5, 2023.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Yara and her visual arts teacher, Daniel Kervin, met State Rep. Berny Jacques at Fitzgerald Middle. They presented her award-winning work to him, so he can transport her painting to the Capitol for the student exhibition.
