Hollins High’s Literacy Team celebrated National Reading Month by donating more than 600 books to ReadStrong Pinellas on Tuesday morning. Students started the annual book drive in 2019 after Teresa Zemaitis, faculty sponsor of the Literacy Team, shared the story of a former student who lived in a group home and enjoyed reading books to the younger kids. But because the home had a limited number of books, the student would read the same ones over and over.

Children’s group homes have benefited from the past two book drives, but this year, the team wanted to reach the entire Pinellas Community through ReadStrong.

Students placed collection boxes around the school and asked students and staff to donate new and gently used books. The collection concluded this week when the team, including President David Andino, helped load hundreds of books into the vehicles of ReadStrong Pinellas representatives in front of the school.
