PTC holds summer job fair
June 12, 2023
Michael Denniston and Matthew McHenry have only been students at PTC Clearwater for a couple of weeks, but they are already having face-to-face conversations with potential employers.
The school welcomed about 50 employers and 200 students to campus for its biannual job fair Wednesday. Everyone from electrical contractors to local municipalities and auto dealerships to resorts used the opportunity to generate initial contact.
For McHenry, who is a student in the web development program, there were a “good amount of options” that would fit his chosen career path.
“You can use the coding knowledge to branch out into a number of fields,” McHenry said while perusing the booths. “There’s always a need.”
According to Kimberly Barker, Assistant Director at PTC Clearwater, the school prepares for the job fairs by offering students resume writing seminars and mock interviews in the days prior, giving students the opportunity to practice.
Josh Fernandez, who is in Human Resources at APG Electric, said PTC job fairs regularly provide great candidates, especially from the school’s low-voltage electricity program.
“The electrical field really benefits from programs like this,” Fernandez said. “We are about education in general, but this offers more specialized programs and shows a different route than traditional college.”
