Largo Middle School scholars get free haircuts courtesy of the Pinellas Technical College Barbering Program
Nov. 8, 2023
Barbering Program students from PTC in Clearwater visited Largo Middle World IB School to give students stylish haircuts.
The PTC students are participating in a 900-hour program to become certified barbers. While the scholars got free haircuts, the barbering students got hands-on experience, allowing them to refine their skills and prepare for future careers as Master Barbers.
The experience also provided Largo Middle students with an opportunity to see career-training offerings available with Pinellas County Schools, said Largo Middle Principal Alec Liem.
PTC Barbering Instructor Robert Waterman wants students to know that "being a barber is a lot more than cutting hair."
"They can do stage shows. They can work for large clipper companies," Waterman said. "There are barbers who work (with) celebrities and they do a lot of different things."
