East Lake Middle student wins state Youth Art Month Flag Contest

March 5, 2024

Hadley with her winning Youth Art Flag

East Lake Middle School student Hadley Dorsett won the state Youth Art Month Flag contest. The Florida Art Education Association chose Hadley's design from hundreds of submissions from across the state.

Her work was submitted last school year while she was a student at Brooker Creek Elementary. Hadley’s flag design, called "Our Home is Enough," will be displayed in the Youth Art Month Museum at the National Art Education Association Convention on April 4-6, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Hadley and her art teacher, Shannon Livingston, presented a duplicate flag to Superintendent Kevin Hendrick during the School Board Meeting on Feb. 27. The duplicate is displayed in the lobby of the PCS Administration Building.

Every year, March is proclaimed as “Youth Art Month” across the nation. This year’s theme is: “Dream in Art.”
