PCS earns districtwide accreditation renewal from the Cognia Global Commission

July 2, 2024

Cognia accreditation sealPinellas County Schools has renewed its districtwide accreditation status.

With the recent announcement, the district was awarded Accredited status by the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission on June 27, 2024. The Global commission includes the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

The global accreditation provides Pinellas County Schools with a highly regarded status that is recognized throughout the world.

To earn Cognia accreditation, a school district also must implement a continuous process of improvement and submit to internal and external review.  Schools in good standing can maintain their accreditation for six years.

The district earned an Index of Education Quality score of 355 and commendations for two Noteworthy Practices, which indicate the highest levels of performance. Districts with IEQs above 300 meet Cognia’s expectations and may include one or more Noteworthy Practices.

The two Noteworthy Practices identified by Cognia external reviewers as the district’s greatest strengths are:

  • The Pinellas County School District’s strategic plan is designed to maximize continuous improvement processes in a learner-centered, equity-embedded culture of learning.
  • District leadership’s commitment to enhancing curriculum design and the utilization of data, coupled with the consideration of other information to address student needs, fosters a dynamic and impactful learning environment.
