PCS celebrates Career and Technical Education Month
Feb. 11, 2025
Students from dozens of career academies showcased their programs at the Administration Building in celebration of Career and Technical Education Month.
The School Board also recognized five Career Academies for earning Academies of Distinction status at Tuesday's regular Board meeting.
In 2011, the district's Career, Technical and Adult Education department partnered with the Pinellas Education Foundation's Stavros Career Education Board to implement career academies in PCS high schools.
The career academy system, known as the Academies of Pinellas, has been guided by nationally recognized standards. The National Career Academy Coalition standards define 10 critical areas that have proven effective in supporting student learning, community partnerships, academic- and career-themed content integration and work-based learning principles. Stravros Center Career Education Board members visit every career academy and assess their operational effectiveness.
The academies honored at the School Board meeting represent the highest levels of performance, said Mark Hunt, Executive Director of Career, Technical and Adult Education. Congratulations to our Academies of Distinction:
