High-achieving students honored at the Vyrle Davis Awards ceremony
Feb. 28, 2025
The district recognized the academic achievement of more than 120 Black students at the 8th Annual Vyrle Davis Student Achievement Awards Ceremony. The event took place on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Gibbs High School.
The awards recognized the top Black scholars from elementary, middle and high schools in South County. All high school scholars have maintained a 4.0 weighted GPA or higher. As part of the ceremony, six seniors were awarded college scholarships.
The event honors the legacy of the late Vyrle Davis, an educator for 40 years in Pinellas County Schools. In 1986, Mr. Davis was named the county’s first African American area superintendent. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1995.
Congratulations to our Vyrle Davis award winners!
