School Board member Caprice Edmond honored by the Woodson African American Museum of Florida
April 4, 2025
The Woodson African American Museum of Florida honored School Board Vice Chairperson Caprice Edmond at its First Ladies in African American History event. Mrs. Edmond is the first African American president of the Greater Florida Consortium of School Boards.
She was recognized on March 30 with other honorees, including former State Senator Arthenia Joyner, Joyce Cotton, Ashly Hubbard, Darla Otey-Murphy, Veronica Spears and the Winnie Foster Lifetime Achievement honoree, Linda Marcelli.
The honor comes as Mrs. Edmond has renewed her Certified Board Member distinction through the Florida School Boards Association. Some of the classes for her certification were provided by the district's Professional Learning Department.
Her renewal represents a significant milestone, requiring 96 hours of comprehensive training focusing on leadership, advocacy, and strategic knowledge with an additional 15 points earned annually.
"Caprice's continued pursuit of professional growth is truly inspiring," said Tina Pinkoson, FSBA's Director of Leadership Services, in a recent press release. "Since her initial election in 2020, she has not only maintained her commitment to learning but has become an influential voice within our organization."
Andrea Messina, Chief Executive Officer of FSBA, added, "Edmond continues to be a pivotal contributor to both statewide and national educational discussions. Her collaborative approach and insightful perspectives remain crucial in shaping effective governance strategies."
