ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year The district was named a Florida ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy. The recognition is for earning ENERGY STAR certification for 90 schools and avoiding $7 million in energy costs in 2019.  Pinellas County Schools is one of four Energy Star partners honored for outstanding contributions to public health and the environment. ENERGY STAR® is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency, providing simple, credible, and unbiased information that consumers and businesses rely on to make well-informed decisions. Thousands of industrial, commercial, utility, state, and local organizations-including more than 40 percent of the Fortune 500®-rely on their partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to deliver cost-saving energy efficiency solutions.

In 2015, the district partnered with Cenergistic, a national leading energy conservation and sustainability company, to implement their energy conservation program with three primary goals: to improve and maintain building comfort, save money through a reduction in energy consumption to raise teacher salaries and fund student programs, and to change the district's culture to become a national sustainability leader.
