Seminole Middle students demonstrate a character initiative

Character.org, a national advocate for character development, has selected Seminole Middle as a 2021 National School of Character.

Character education plays an integral role at Seminole Middle, where students learn the core character traits of respect, responsibility, scholarship, teamwork, honesty, collaboration, perseverance, patriotism, service and self-motivation.

Seminole Middle is the only school in the Tampa Bay area and one of two in Florida to earn this prestigious honor. Nationally, 47 schools and one school district received the recognition.

“The educators at these schools model and reinforce the core values of respect and dignity,” Dr. Arthur Schwartz, President of Character.org, said in a media release. “They are teaching their students to be honest and trustworthy, to contribute their time and talents to the common good, and when necessary, to show the courage to stand up for what is right.”

Since its inception, the National Schools of Character program has impacted more than 3 million students, staff, parents, and community members. The schools and districts that apply must meet the rigorous standards articulated in Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools. Each school is assessed by a team of trained evaluators.

Character.org will honor the 2021 National Schools of Character at its next virtual Annual Forum, October 20-22, 2021.
