Become a Teacher Leader
-
- Teachers may become site-based teacher leaders by engaging in various activities such as team leader, PLC leader, Data Champion, Equity Champion, teacher mentor, and being a member of a district committee.
- In addition, there is a district-wide program called Leadership U, a program that develops leaders in whatever position they are currently serving.
- There are also two initiatives in the district for those wanting to work towards administrative leadership positions:
-
- PCS Aspiring Leaders’ Event offered each February where interested candidates can meet with panels of district/school leaders and university partners to answer questions.
- PCS Black Future Leaders’ Program which was created to develop black administrators.
- Finally, for those who want to become assistant principals, they will need to attain certification in educational leadership. If teacher leaders do not have a master’s degree, they would want to pursue one in educational leadership. If teacher leaders have a master’s degree in another area, they could explore their options for a certificate program (modified program), a second master’s degree, or an advanced degree such as an educational specialist in educational leadership. Besides the coursework, teacher leaders will have to successfully pass the state exam, the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE). See Chalk Talk for university information.
