Help Shape a Dignified Future

  • Updates on the North Greenwood Cemetery Project

     North Greenwood Cemetery.

Thank you for attending the online meeting held on Thursday, June 12 at 6 p.m.
We appreciate your time, participation, and thoughtful contributions.

Pinellas County Schools, in collaboration with archaeologists from Stantec (Demolition and Archaeological Workplan), remains committed to a respectful and responsible process surrounding the former Palmetto Elementary School site—land that is part of the historic North Greenwood Cemetery, once believed to have been fully relocated.

The June 12 meeting was part of our ongoing effort to engage the community in a transparent, healing-centered dialogue. This work follows the 2021 archaeological investigation that uncovered evidence of burials still present at the site. To learn more about that discovery and its significance, please visit: Archaeological Ground-truth Excavation of North Greenwood Cemetery.

We understand the deep emotional importance of this site, particularly for families whose loved ones may be buried there. Your voice continues to be essential in shaping how we honor those who came before us, protect their dignity, and ensure that the site is treated with the care and respect it deserves.
