The Process for Becoming a Substitute Teacher:
- Successfully complete the online applicationincluding complete life/work history from high school until present or the last 10 years
- Provide two current professional references within the current year utilizing the email option on the application
- Successfully complete the Substitute Teaching Training Program that is required. The applicants will be contacted and scheduled to complete the specific training. There is no charge for the training and there is no compensation provided
- Provide official transcripts and certificates (if any) with the application

Requirements for Becoming a Substitute Teacher:
- Associate’s Substitute --
Requires a minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university. This substitute must successfully complete a 3-day Substitute Teacher Workshop. The Substitute Teacher Workshop is provided through the district at no cost or compensation to the participant. After successfully completing the training the substitute will be able to teach at all grade levels and will also be able to apply for onsite substitute teaching opportunities.
- Bachelor’s Substitute --
Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. This substitute must successfully complete a 3-day Substitute Teacher Workshop. The Substitute Teacher Workshop is provided through the district at no cost or compensation to the participant. After successfully completing the training the substitute will be able to teach at all grade levels and will also be able to apply for onsite substitute teaching opportunities.
- Certified Substitute --
Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university and a valid teaching certificate from the state of Florida or another state for which Florida has reciprocity. This substitute must complete a 1-day Substitute Teacher Orientation or a 3-day Substitute Teacher Workshop depending on the current level of experience. The Substitute Teacher Orientation/Workshop is provided through the district at no cost or compensation to the participant. After successfully completing the training the substitute will be able to teach at all grade levels and will also be able to apply for onsite substitute teaching positions, long-term substitute teaching positions, and co-teacher positions.
- Substitutes Must Be Able To:
- Work a minimum of four (4) jobs per month
- Work a minimum of two (2) Mondays or Fridays per month
- Be available to accept jobs after all hiring requirements and training have been completed
- Follow the designated work hours for each job selected
- Maintain the physical and emotional stamina to perform the duties of the Substitute Teacher (See the Teacher, Substitute job description for more details)
