Call out 10/22

Good afternoon Tech High families,

grades were finalized on Friday last week and report cards will be distributed on Thurs. 10/26. Be sure to celebrate the victories and develop a plan to address any areas for improvement. On Friday, Nov. 3rd we will plan to provide an ice cream treat during lunch for any students who have earned Principal’s List or Honor Roll. We are so excited to recognize this remarkable achievement with them.

Here are some of the things you will need to know for the upcoming week at Tech High:
1.) All 11th and 12th grade students who have not met their ELA or Math testing requirements for graduation will have an opportunity to take the ACT during the school day on November 6th and 7th. This is another great chance to earn concordance for graduation and breathe a big sigh of relief. 11th and 12th grade students taking the ACT should begin studying now so they are ready to rock the ACT on test day. There are a number of free ACT test prep resources available online.

2.) Jacobson Technical High School is offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on Tuesday, October 24th at 8:30 am in room 1-219.  Students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade are eligible to test.  Seats are limited to 25, first come, first served.  Students should sign up here:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F45AFAB2AA2FECE9-asvab1#/

An ASVAB score review will be held in the College and Career Center on November 9th at 9:15 am for all testers.

3.) The Tech High Dads Club is sponsoring the Bowling with Dads event taking place on Saturday, 10/28 from 12PM - 2PM at Seminole Lanes located at 8668 Park Blvd, Seminole, FL 33777. The cost will be $12-$15 per bowler. This will cover lane rental, bowling ball, and shoes. Payment can be made when you arrive at the event. Food will be available for purchase at the concession stand and is not included in the price of the event. Students and family members, especially dads (or anyone who serves in the capacity of a dad) are welcome to join us.

We are looking forward to spending some time together and having some fun. If you are planning to join us please complete the online RSVP at the following link so we will be able to reserve the appropriate number of lanes for the event:  https://forms.office.com/r/Tq714nGxsH

Thank you very much and we hope to see you on Saturday, 10/28.

4.) Students and families of the Class of ’24: we have some exciting news!!! Our graduation date will be Saturday, May 18th at Tropicana Field at 7pm. Please feel free to invite as many guests as you like. Entrance to the graduation is free, but there is a fee to park at Tropicana Field. Be sure to check out all the other senior activities at our Tech High Class of ’24 page on our website. Any student planning to participate in our graduation ceremony must pay their grad fees. A breakdown of the grad fees and a link to make payment is also included on the Class of ’24 webpage: https://www.pcsb.org/Page/40331

Please contact me to request financial assistance with grad fees.

5.) This week, the Senior class will be sponsoring a “Pie in the Face” fundraiser. Selected staff members have agreed to participate and students will be able to contribute money to the container for the staff member of their choice during both lunches. At the end of the week, the staff members who have “earned” the most money will receive a “pie in the face” from a lucky student. We think this will be a lot of fun and the proceeds will be used to offset the cost of senior activities taking place this year. Please feel free to send in your contribution with your child so they can place it in the container for the staff member of their choice.

6.) We are excited to announce our upcoming Homecoming Spirit week and dance. The theme for this year is “Hollywood Glitz and Glamour!”. The dance is scheduled for Friday, 11/3 from 7pm – 10pm in the Tech High cafeteria and pavilion. Tickets are on sale until we run out and they are $25 per person. There is a form that will need to be completed if your child plans to bring a guest from another school. The forms are available in the front office.

Here is a breakdown of the theme days for spirit week (Monday 10/30 – Friday 11/3)

Monday: Favorite Holiday

Tuesday: Character Day

Wednesday: Bikers vs Surfers (Teen Beach)-Biker as in Harley, not Tour de France

Thursday: Teacher/Student Swap

Friday: Music Genre (9th=Pop, 10th= Rock N Roll, 11th=Rap, 12th=Country)

7.) As part of the Homecoming events, we will be hosting the Tech High Program Olympics on Wednesday, 11/1 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm in the dining pavilion area. Program teachers will have Team sign-ups available this week. Teams from each program will compete in 10 fun and wacky events to determine which program will proudly display the Program Olympics trophy for one calendar year.

Last year, our Nursing program earned the trophy. We will be excited to see which program will hoist the trophy this year. Families are welcome to attend the fun and see all the action. Student participants should plan to wear clothes that can get a little messy (just in case). This is going to be fun!

8.) The deadline has been extended for the Take Stock in Children Scholarship.  New deadline is December 15, 2023.  This is an opportunity for students in 6th – 9th grade to receive a tuition only Florida Prepaid scholarship, a volunteer mentor and a College Success Coach.
To be eligible, candidates must be on Free/reduced lunch, attend a Pinellas County Public middle or high school and have the aspiration to attend college or technical school but not the financials means. To learn more about this life changing program, please visit www.pinellaseducation.org/tsic or check out the attached flyers: TSIC Apply Now Flyer.pdf       TSIC Application Flyer 2023 - 2024.pdf

Thank you to all of our Tech High families for all the ways you support our school and our community. I am honored to have the privilege of serving our students, staff, families, and community.

“We are… Tech High!”

In Case You Missed It…
1.) Academic tutoring is available during both lunches Mon – Thurs. and after school from 2:15 – 3:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the cafeteria. Please encourage your child to attend tutoring for assistance in any subject areas where they are struggling. Please see the attached form Tutoring Schedule 23-24.docx  for more information.

2.)   Attendance: Did you know that if your child is out of school just 2 days per month, by the end of the year they will have missed 10% of their school year? Attendance is important and there is a very significant correlation between good attendance and academic success. Please partner with us to ensure that your child is in school on time every day. If your child has to miss school, please report their absence to Ms. Howard at howardd@pcsb.org or call the school at (727) 545-6405 x. 2007. Attendance matters
