Call out 10/01
Good afternoon Tech High families,
There are just 2 short weeks left in this grading period as Quarter 1 will end on Friday, Oct. 13th. Please monitor your child’s grades and communicate with their teachers to determine what needs to be done for your child to finish strong. Our goal is to have 60% of our students make Honor Roll or Principal’s List and I am confident we can achieve that goal if we are intentional in our approach. Thank you for your support of this initiative.
Here are some of the things you will need to know for the upcoming week at Tech High:
1.) PCS Food & Nutrition Department is surveying students about the current lunch options to find out what meals they like and which items they would like added to their lunch menus. The department will use students' choices to create future menus. Please encourage your child to take the Food & Nutrition Student Lunch Survey. The survey will close on Oct. 9, 2023.
They can access the survey at https://survey.k12insight.com/r/CcLqiy
2.) Jacobson Technical High School is offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on Tuesday, October 24th at 8:30 am in room 1-219. Students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade are eligible to test. Seats are limited to 25, first come, first served. Students should sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F45AFAB2AA2FECE9-asvab1#/
An ASVAB score review will be held in the College and Career Center on November 9th at 9:15 am for all testers.
3.) The PSAT test will be administered to all 11th grade students on Wed. 10/4. The PSAT test scores provide eligibility for National Merit Scholarships, Advanced Placement potential, and even allow students to meet their graduation requirement for Math standardized testing. Please ensure that your 11th grade student gets a good night’s sleep and comes to school on Wednesday morning ready to do their best. 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the PSAT next week on Tues. 10/10. We are excited to offer this testing opportunity to all 3 grade levels. Thank you for your support of this process.
4.) Pinellas Technical College would like to invite our school community to their Open House from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 10th on the Clearwater Campus and on Tuesday October 3rd, on the St. Petersburg Campus. Attached are flyersOWI-860-OH-Fall-2023-Flyer-CLW-EN.pdf OWI-860-OH-Fall-2023-Flyer-SP-EN.pdf with details of these events. This is the perfect time to visit and obtain information about the variety of career technical training opportunities available at Pinellas Technical College.
5.) On Tuesday, October 3rd from 9:00-11:00, all Seniors have the opportunity to apply to St. Petersburg College for free. We will have an SPC representative helping students fill out free applications in room 1-219. This is a great opportunity to complete an application that is free, plus you can use the application for years to come!
Senior students should sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F45AFAB2AA2FECE9-stpetersburg1#/
To prepare for this day, they will need: social security number and 2 forms of a parent's ID to establish in-state tuition. These could include: Florida DL #, Fl Voter Registration # (available on Florida Voter website), or Florida car registration # or License plate #. Both forms of ID must be items that have been valid for 1 year.
6.) Friday, 10/6 will be a designated Club Meeting Day. Students will have a chance to indicate interest in joining a club at our Club Fair that will take place during both lunches on Wednesday. At that time, they will be able to collect a pass that will allow them to go to their club meeting during the designated period for that club. Students will be responsible for any makeup work that needs to be completed as a result of missing their regularly scheduled class for their club meeting. It is amazing to see the different activities that clubs are engaging in this year. Please encourage your child to get involved.
Thank you to all of our Tech High families for all the ways you support our school and our community. I am honored to have the privilege of serving our students, staff, families, and community.
“We are… Tech High!”
In Case You Missed It…
1.) Academic tutoring is available during both lunches Mon – Thurs. and after school from 2:15 – 3:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the cafeteria. Please encourage your child to attend tutoring for assistance in any subject areas where they are struggling. Please see the attached form Tutoring Schedule 23-24.docx for more information.
2.) Attendance: Did you know that if your child is out of school just 2 days per month, by the end of the year they will have missed 10% of their school year? Attendance is important and there is a very significant correlation between good attendance and academic success. Please partner with us to ensure that your child is at school on time every day. If your child has to miss school, please report their absence to Ms. Howard at howardd@pcsb.org or call the school at (727) 545-6405 x. 2007. Attendance matters
3.) We are excited to announce that the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Application is now open through November 1, 2023. This is an opportunity for students in 6th – 9th grade to receive a tuition only Florida Prepaid scholarship, a volunteer mentor and a College Success Coach.
