Gibbs High School

Respect, Excellence and Pride

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we introduce you to our newest administrator, for the PCCA Program, Mr. Derek Weston.   While Mr. Weston is new to the role of an Assistant Principal, he is not new to Gibbs High School or the PCCA Magnet Program.  He brings a great deal of strength and experience to this position, and his familiarity with our staff and students will benefit him well in his new role.  He has accepted the offer and the responsibilities that come with serving in this position.  His official first day is today, and he has hit the ground running.  His acceptance comes on what has been a challenging task of finding a replacement for Mr. Vasallo.  The interview committee, conducted three rounds of interviews over the course of the summer.  Finally, a recommendation was made that satisfied all parties involved. Turns out, we had the perfect candidate right under our noses.
GLADIATOR NATION, please join me in congratulating Mr. Weston on his new position.
Mr. Weston has thirteen years of experience in increasingly responsible roles within the Gibbs High School community. In his most recent position as a Choral Director and Music Department Chair, Mr. Weston shadowed Mr. Vasallo on many days throughout the school year. His experience is enhanced by his Master’s degree, and service to the St. Petersburg community. As the Assistant Principal for the PCCA Magnet Program, Mr. Weston is responsible for the overall integrity, leadership, marketing, operation and growth of the program. Thanks for joining me in congratulating Mr. Derek Weston in his new role as the Assistant Principal of the PCCA Magnet Program.
