Weekly Update for the week of December 18th

Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update.

Parents, as next week is our semester 1 exam week, we have a quiet week as we head into Winter Break.  I have attached the exam schedule to the email update which consists of students taking exams in periods 1 and 2 on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, and 5 and 6th periods on Wednesday.  Thursday is an exam makeup day with a regular bells schedule.  Students do not have exams in every one of their 6 classes as some of the assessments they took over the last couple weeks count for exam grades on a weighted scale.

An update on our OMS/PCS Stakeholder survey, we have a long way to go to get to our required survey percentage, so please help.  I know surveys are not fun but this one is very important.  If you have not yet been able to do so, please take a couple minutes to do so this week as the survey closes on Friday. The survey link is: www.pcsb.org/survey

In athletics, this week our Boys Basketball team plays home on Tuesday vs. Lealman at 4:40 and the Girls are off this week.

Last, each day is a unique holiday dress day which begins with wearing Blue on Monday for Hanukkah, wear a Grinch or green shirt Tuesday, Tropical shirt on Wednesday, and Ugly Sweater Day on Thursday.

Weekly Update for the week of December 4th

Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update.

Parents, as we have only 3 weeks left of quarter 2 and the first semester, we have very busy weeks ahead with the start of testing and holiday events. We will want to do our best to engage, remediate, and keep students motivated to raise their grades with the time we have left to finish quarter 2 strong.  Now is a great time to review grades in parent portal and check student grades.

Monday, 8th grade students will take the 8th Grade Science test which emulates the assessment they will take at the end of the year.  Students have been preparing for this all week and should be well prepared for this assessment which takes the place of their semester 1 exam grade.  Tuesday, our 6th grade students will take their Reading PM2 assessment after enrichment.  7th grade Reading will be Wednesday and 8th graders will all test PM2 Reading on Thursday of this week.  It is important that their laptops are fully charged and they get a good night sleep the night before.  Friday, we end the week with an OMS Kids Night Out Movie Night from 5:30-8.  Students can bring their pillows, blankets or chairs and watch the movie Elf in the cafeteria.  Tickets are $5 at the door and there will be food to purchase.  This event is for OMS students only so give your parents a night off and come join us!

Parents, it is time already to complete our annual PCS Stakeholder survey and I hope everyone can take the time to complete this important survey.  I look forward to receiving valuable input on how we can continue to improve to make OMS the best middle school possible and acknowledge what we are doing well.  The survey link is: www.pcsb.org/survey

On December 15th Osceola Fundamental High will be hosting a winter festival from 6-8 PM and our students and families are invited. This event will be held in the parking lot of Osceola Fundamental and will be similar to a Trunk-or-Treat event. Throughout the parking lot, there will be about two dozen stations of fun games such as ring toss and cornhole. There will also be stations with hot cocoa, ornament decorating, a photo booth, and more . Each booth will be led by a group of students. They are asking for unwrapped toys for donations.

The OMS Leadership Club will be starting their annual donation drive for Operation Military Matters. We will be collecting goods and cards that will be sent overseas to our military members who are deployed. Fliers were passed out last week and is attached to the email update. We will be collecting items in the Café now until 12/13. The grade level with the most donations will get points for the spirit stick at the next Pep Rally.

Next week on Monday through Thursday, candy grams will be on sale during lunches for $1 each!  Proceeds will go towards our school's food bank to help feed families this holiday season.  Students can but their friends and teachers a candy gram to say thank you for all they do!  They will be delivered during 6th period on December 21st.

In athletics, this week our Boys play home on Monday, Girls play home on Tuesday and Girls again home on Thursday.  All game times begin at 4:40pm.

Last, our Guideline for Success focus next week is on being Responsible and our Fun Friday Tee Day is to wear Red and White as it is Candy Cane Day.
