Parent Update for the First Day of School
Good evening Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun calling to provide you with a few updates as we prepare for our 1st day of school on August 11th which is just a few weeks away!
Parents, as you do back to school shopping, please make sure that your child’s clothes are in line with our modified dress code. Nothing in our dress code has changed for those veteran OMS parents but for the new Chiefs, you will want to closely review our dress code which is posted on our website and included on the email version of this update. When it comes to materials, please remember that we ask only that your child has a laptop case and binder which they make those all in one which can be found online or in some department stores. The only other materials you will need to purchase would be paper and writing utensils and you are all set.
On Wednesday, July 30th, from 9-11am OR 5-7pm, incoming 6th graders can participate in Peer Connect. Please choose only one session to attend, no registration required ahead of time. Peer Connect is an opportunity for incoming 6th graders to get to know their campus with other students. There will NOT be a formal presentation for parents, however, OMS Spirit Wear will be for sale in the cafeteria and parents are welcome to stay to enjoy the air conditioning. Students will be participating in a scavenger hunt and end back in the cafeteria for a snack.
On Thursday, August 7th between the hours of 9am-12pm, we will be having our Chief Community Day event where all OMS students will receive their schedules, free lock, locker assignment to set up and walk the campus to learn where their classes are located. We will also have OMS spirit wear for sale, community vendors, and teachers and staff available to answer questions. Please note that you may arrive at depart any time during the 9-12 window as there is no whole group presentation so no need to rush to be on time for this event. As we will continue to have lockers available if needed next year, please remember that students are to keep their backpacks in lockers and carry only their laptop case/binder to class.
On a side note, students and families will be able to view their schedules in FOCUS starting on Thursday, August 7, 2025, which is the same day as Chief Community Day.
For parents dropping off students, we will begin this process of dropping off at 8:50 am for the first 3 days which is 20 minutes earlier than normal. After the first few days we will return to a 9:10 drop off time. Beginning at 9:10 am Monday morning we will have all gates open for all students to enjoy free breakfast if they choose and only students who missed Chief Community Day will report to the gym to get their schedules and lock. Students who attended Chief Community Day already received their schedules and locks so will go to the cafeteria for breakfast or find their locker and prepare for the day.
All parents will use our car circle entrance off 98th Street North as we will not allow drop off on 94th avenue or the high school car circle as 94th Avenue is for buses and parents of students who require accommodations. Please remember to take turns merging as you approach the final stretch of the carline and ensure your child is ready to exit when you come to that complete stop all the way at the end of the car circle to keep the traffic moving efficiently. For pickup, we continue using our carline only. Please do not park or pull into the yards on 90th Avenue as those are private residences. If your child is a bus rider, you will soon receive communication through parent portal and email by August 2nd of their pickup location and time. Please make sure you child is present at their stop a little earlier than the pickup time and be patient in case of potential delays. Parents I would highly recommend you sign up for the bus bulletin at www.pcsb.org/busbulletin and keep an eye out for updates.
