Weekly Update for the week of January 22nd
Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update.
First of all, I would like to congratulate our Girls Basketball team as they were victorious with two very exciting finishes in both playoff games last week and will move on to the District Championship on Wednesday at Clearwater High School. Good luck to our Lady Chiefs! Due to rainy conditions late last week, our track tryouts have extended to Monday before school at 8:00am and after school Monday until 5:30 pm. We understand if a student is not able to make both sessions on Monday however, tryouts need to be completed on Monday.
In other events this week we would like to congratulate one of our 8th grade science teachers, Mr. Kackley as he will represent OMS at Monday’s Evening of Excellence for earning recognition as Teacher of the Year for our school. Congratulations Mr. Kackley and thank you for all you do for our students! Don’t forget parents of 6th and 7th grade students that we will discuss course selection options at our next SAC meeting this Wednesday, January 24th from 5:30 to 6pm in our Media Center. Our monthly PTSA meeting will follow at 6:00. Friday will be our next OMS Pep Rally where we will see if either our 6th or 8th grade can steal the spirit stick away from our 7th graders in order to earn a dress down day.
Also taking place this week is National Literacy Week! Each day has a different theme and activity which you can view below. There is a specific dress day for Tuesday (Be a Sport and Read –wear your favorite sports team shirt), Wednesday to wear a shirt representing your favorite book or character, Thursday is to wear crazy socks and Friday is to wear grade level color shirts (6th - White or Gray, 7th – Navy or Blue, 8th – Burgundy or Red) to win points for the sprit stick and our PBIS Guideline for Success focus is to be Active Learners.
That’s all for announcements for this week. Thank you Chief parents for your support and have a great weekend!

Weekly Update for the week of January 8th
Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update.
As we return from what I hope was a great holiday break, we will begin with Enrichment to start the day as we always do. While the majority of students opted to keep their current enrichment some students chose to try a new theme which we tried our best to get students their top choice. As there were a few teacher changes as well, any adjustment made is updated in focus listing the new enrichment teacher if applicable. Any additional changes can be requested after our first week back with the grade level counselor based on availability in the class.
In athletics, our Girls Basketball team plays their last regular season game at Largo Middle Wednesday where a victory in this game will get our Lady Chiefs into the district playoffs. Good luck girls.
The rest of the week is rather uneventful as we settle back in our routine. The following week don’t forget there is no school on Monday, January 15 as it is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Report Cards go home on January 18th and all grades will be posted this Friday.
Parents of 6th and 7th Graders, as we already approach the beginning of our course selection process for next school year, I invite all parents to our SAC meeting on January 24 from 5:30 to 6pm in our Media Center as we will discuss course selection options so that your child is prepared when school counselors visit 6th and 7th grade science classes in February to assist with picking classes.
Our Fun Friday Tee day is to wear an NFL shirt/jersey as next weekend begins the playoffs or an OMS Spirit Day. Our PBIS Guideline for Success focus is to be Responsible where modeling that behavior all week will earn students PBIS points.
That’s all for announcements for this week. Thank you Chief parents for your support and have a great weekend!
