    Parent Update for the Week of 1/27/25 

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    Looking to our week ahead, Monday evening Pinellas County Schools will hold the annual Top 10 Teacher of the Year - Evening of Excellence where we wish the best of luck to OMS’ very own Ms. Shircliff as the overall winner will be announced at the event. We are lucky to have Ms. Shircliff as a Chief and we are all proud of all she does for our students.

    In athletics, Monday after school is our last day of track tryouts for Boys only and Girls track final tryout is on Tuesday until 5:30pm.  As course selection for next year will take place this week in science classes for 6th and 7th graders, we will be available to answer any questions you may have during our next SAC meeting on Wednesday evening in the media center at 5:30pm.  Our PTSA meeting will follow right after at 6pm Wednesday. 

    8th Grade Families, don’t forget we will start collecting money on Monday, February 3rd for the 8th grade trip to Gradventure at Universal Studios Orlando. The cost is $200 per student and it includes the following admission to Gradventure, a meal voucher, Bus Transportation and an exclusive OMS Gradventure 2025 t-shirt. 

    On January 30th, PCS will be hosting their annual ESE Fair from 6-7:30pm at Pinellas Technical College St. Pete Campus for anyone interested. https://www.pcsb.org/esefair

    Last, our PBIS focus of the week is to be Respectful and our Fun Friday Tee Music Appreciation Day where students can wear a shirt of their favorite music artist, band, or any appropriate music themed shirt.

    Parent Update for the Week of 1/21/25

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    Congratulations to the 7th grade again for winning the OMS Spirit Stick at Friday’s Pep Rally for the 3rd time in a row.  As a result, they will earn a dress down day on Friday.

    As we head into a 4 day school week, don’t forget there is no school on Monday as we observe and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Tuesday after school until 5:30 we will have our first day of track tryouts for any student interested.  Tryouts begin Tuesday and last through Thursday.  Students must bring the necessary paperwork with them to tryout unless they have already done so for any other sport this school year. They must have a physical, participation form, and student accident insurance which can be found on the district website https://www.pcsb.org/Domain/166 and insurance link: https://www.pcsb.org/Page/40660  .

    On Wednesday our 8th grade students will take their 8th grade Science Mock SSA assessment in the morning and in the afternoon we will take sports and club photos for the yearbook.  On Thursday, we will take our 8th grade class panoramic photo during 1st period.

    8th Grade Families, we are in the final stretch of the school year and now it is time to start planning for the end of the year activities and celebrations for our 8th grade students. On Friday, May 9, 2025, our 8th graders will be attending Gradventure at Universal Studios Orlando. The cost is $200 per student and it includes the following admission to Gradventure, a meal voucher, Bus Transportation and an exclusive OMS Gradventure 2025 t-shirt.  We will start collecting money on Monday, February 3rd and we will stop collecting on Friday, March 14, 2025 or until we fill all of our spots available. More information and permission slips will be distributed during the week of January 27, 2025.

    Parent Update for the Week of 1/13/25

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    This week we have a few fun events taking place beginning with 8th graders visiting a traveling planetarium in our own cafeteria on Tuesday during science classes.  6th graders go on their social studies field trips this week either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, Our boys and girls basketball teams play their last games on Wednesday, Report cards will be sent home Thursday during 7th period and Friday ends the week with our grade level awards assemblies throughout the school day and our OMS Pep Rally at the end of the day to see which grade level wins the OMS Spirit Stick for quarter 3.

    8th grade parents, do not forget that the District Application window is now open and this is the time to apply for any high school program.  More information is available on the PCSB website. https://www.pcsb.org/Domain/10466

    Parents, mark your calendars for a few upcoming events in the following weeks. Our OMS fishing club will be sponsoring a community fish fry on Saturday, January 18 from 11-1! The cost is $5 per meal. Dinner includes fish, French fries, and coleslaw. This will be held in the car circle at school, you will drive thru, and we will serve you from your car. We have a limit of 5 meals per car to keep the line moving.  We hope to see you all there. 

    It is hard to believe that it is already time to begin the process for course selection for the 2025-26 school year.  The week of January 21st, the 8th grade school counselor will visit 7th grade science classes to inform students of course offerings.  The week of January 27th, our 7th grade school counselor will visit 6th grade science classes for the same.  During our SAC meeting on January 29th, we will provide an overview of course selection and answer any questions families may have.  I have attached the course selection sheets to the email update so you can discuss with your child ahead of time.

    Parent Update for the Week of 1/06/25

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    As we return to school on Monday from what I hope was a great holiday break, we begin our second semester and 3rd quarter. Teacher will finish grades by the end of the week and report cards will be sent home on January 16th.  Looking ahead to next week, there are no major events other than makeup testing on Tuesday for those who missed PM2 Math or Reading.  Ms. Scott will notify students on Monday if they will be testing.

    I would like to thank all of those who have donated food items over the last couple months and also thank Ms. Shepard, Ms. King, and others for organizing it all to help feed over 50 families for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.  We appreciate everyone’s generosity and support!

    Last, our PBIS focus of the week is to be Respectful and our Fun Friday Tee is to wear a College Shirt.
