Pinellas County Schools 2015-16 Approved Budget
The Pinellas County School Board reviewed the district's proposed annual budget on July 28, 2015 at the First Public Hearing on Budget. The Second and final Public Hearing was held September 8, 2015.
The School Board approved a total property tax rate of 7.770 mills, which amounts to about $7.77 for each $1,000 of assessed property value. This rate is slightly lower than the rate levied for the 2014-15 fiscal year. The property tax rate also includes the local referendum, a one-half mill tax that Pinellas County taxpayers voted to renew in 2008 and 2012, both times by large margins. General Operating Fund
A crucial portion of the budget, about 74 percent, is the operating fund. This fund is the primary budget for the day-to-day operations of the school district. The main source of revenue for the nearly $902 million is the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP), which gleans much of its state revenue from sales taxes and much of its local revenue from property taxes.
Capital Projects
Capital Outlay funds are used for major construction, renovation and remodeling projects as well as certain types of major equipment purchases. Among other capital fund appropriations, the district is allocating $14 million for the replacement of Largo High School. Find out more about the Capital Outlay Plan here.
District Strategic Plan
The 2015-16 budget aligns with the District Strategic Plan. Find out more about the Strategic Plan here.
