District Highlights

• The Pinellas County Schools 2017-18 high school graduation rate rose 3.1 percentage points to 86 percent, representing the highest graduation rate in district history.
• The graduation rate among black students increased a landmark 6.9 percentage points to 76.2 percent.  The efforts of the district’s comprehensive Bridging the Gap plan focused to accelerate the black graduation rate, resulting in a 19.8 percentage point increase since 2012-13. In the past year, Pinellas further reduced the gap between black and non-black students by 4.6 percentage points, which outpaced other subgroups.
• Pinellas County Schools has eliminated the graduation gap between Hispanic and non-Hispanic students. In the past year, the graduation rate among Hispanic students rose 3.7 percentage points to 85 percent, which matches the state. Since 2012-13, the Pinellas graduation rate for Hispanic students has increased 22.4 percentage points.
• Superintendent Michael A. Grego received state and national recognition for his leadership. The Florida Association of District School Superintendents named Dr. Grego the 2018 Florida Superintendent of the Year. The National School Foundation Association honored him as their inaugural Superintendent of the Year.
• Pinellas County Schools earned a top-10 ranking in the annual Digital School Districts Survey. The award recognizes exemplary use of
  technology for innovative curriculum and improved student learning.
• For two years in a row, Pinellas County Schools earned the top spot in Florida and a top-10 ranking nationally for offering school choice for families in a national study by the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
• Science labs in all elementary schools offer students in grades 2-5 access to engaging, hands-on activities to help master science concepts and inspire early interest in pursuing science-related careers.
• Students showed improvements over the last three years in reading and language arts (writing) proficiency rates across elementary and middle schools.
• Nearly half of all schools have an A or B rating and 92.1% have an A, B or C in the Florida Department of Education’s accountability system.
