Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8 Plan
-
October 4, 2024
2 p.m.Due to significant damage to Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8 School, the building will remain closed until all appropriate repairs can be made to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment. It is anticipated that this will take at least several months. Please see the latest relocation information below.
Our 1,400 students who attend Madeira Beach Fundamental are currently divided between two different campuses. The elementary-aged children will temporarily attend classes at Walsingham Elementary, which is about 7 miles to the north of their usual campus. The middle-school-aged students will attend classes at Osceola Fundamental High two miles south of Walsingham ES. These changes are necessary as a result of damage to our school due to Hurricane Helene.
More than half of the high school students at Osceola previously attended Madeira Beach, so a goal of this plan is to keep families as close together as possible during this period.
The major problem with the damage to our school came in the form of electrical systems overcome with seawater. We expect the repairs to take some time.
We recognize the struggles our families have experienced. Getting back to the routine of school as families are able will help. Students will remain with their teachers and classmates. That is a critical piece of the recovery. We are going to treat everything with care and ease.

3:30 p.m.
To ensure that both elementary and middle school families have time to get the information they need regarding the relocation of Madeira Beach Fundamental, we will now hold two family meetings. One specific to elementary grades and one specific to middle grades.
Elementary Grades
The meeting scheduled for tonight (Monday, September 30) will focus on the elementary grade transition and will be held in the Osceola Fundamental High School auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
Classes for elementary school students resume on Wednesday, October 2, at the new site, Walsingham Elementary School (9099 Walsingham Rd, Largo, FL 33773). Their school day will begin at 11:40 a.m. with dismissal at 4:40 p.m. Lunch will be served starting at 11:10 a.m.
Middle Grades
The family meeting for middle school families will occur tomorrow, Tuesday, October 1, at 6:00 p.m. in the Osceola Fundamental High School auditorium.
Because of this change in the meeting date, and to allow additional preparation time, middle school students will now return to class on Thursday, October 3, at Osceola Fundamental High School site (9751 98th St, Seminole, FL 33777), from 12:09 p.m. – 5:10 p.m. Lunch will be served starting at 11:39 a.m.
If your family needs childcare services on Wednesday, district staff will continue to host childcare at Tyrone Middle School from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Advanced registration is not needed; however, you will need to physically sign your child in at the gym location when you arrive.
Next Steps
Please know these plans are temporary but allow students to return to school this week. The district is actively working to solidify additional options to return Madeira Beach Fundamental to a schedule closer to normal. These will be discussed at both parent meetings.
Pinellas County Schools is committed to providing continued high-quality instruction to all students while repairs are made to Madeira Beach Fundamental. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these unprecedented times together.
