Private School Program
-
Under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are required to provide eligible children attending private elementary and secondary schools, along with their teachers and families, access to Title I services or benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public school students, their teachers, and their families.
The Title I Private School Program is designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and meaningful opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Private school students who reside within a participating public school attendance area and are identified as low-achieving are eligible to receive Title I, Part A services. These services are intended to address specific educational needs and supplement, rather than replace, the academic program provided by the private school. Title I, Part A services may be delivered directly by the LEA or through qualified third-party contractors independent of the private school.
In Pinellas County Schools, Title I instructional services for eligible private school students are provided through third-party contractors, including Catapult Learning, LLC, and Solaria Enrichment. The annual Title I allocation is utilized to provide:
-
Additional instructional services for students;
-
Professional development opportunities for teachers; and
-
Family engagement activities that support student academic success.
