Child Care Training

The child care training program is responsible for the foundational training of all staff working in child care centers and family child care homes. The training courses are as follows:
Child Care FacilitiesPart I is the 30-clock hour course consisting of five courses:
• Course I: State and Local Rules and Regulations
• Course II: Health, Safety, and Nutrition
• Course III: Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
• Course IV: Child Development
• Course V: Behavioral Observation and Screening of Young Children
Part II of the mandated introductory training requirement includes a choice of one of the following specialized 10-hour training modules.
• Preschool Appropriate Practices
• School Age Appropriate Practices
• Infant and Toddler Appropriate Practices
•Special Needs Appropriate Practices
In some cases, the 5-hour online literacy course training can be used to partially meet the Part II requirement.
Family Child Care Home Provider30-hour Family Child Care Training:
Course I: Child Care Home Rules and Regulations (for substitutes and individuals requesting subsidized monies)
• Course II: Health, Safety, and Nutrition
• Course III: Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
• Course IV: Child Development
• Course V: Behavioral Observation and Screening of Young Children
The child care training program is also responsible for administration of the competency-based exams that are required in order to complete the training courses. The trainers are experienced and knowledgeable.The curriculum for each class is aimed at being fun, hands-on and useful. The goal of the courses is to prepare our students for work in child care centers and in family day care homes on a part-time, full-time and substitute basis. The classes prepare students for the exams that are required to be taken in order to receive training certificates. The training and exams are offered in Pinellas, Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto Counties.
