Hiring Process Step-by-step

  • Step One

    Application/ DMV  - Online Application

    Please be sure you understand our hiring guidelines on the left before applying and access the application through our hiring. 

     
    Once you've created an account, there is a checkmark on the left-hand side that will guide you through the full application process. When you click on that checkmark use all links provided until "Data Entry Requirement Met" is displayed.
     
    Under the References tab, the system sends an email to your references as soon as you submit them. "Pending" will appear in the status until they have completed and returned the questionnaire. The status will then change to "Returned". You will need at least one reference returned to proceed.
     
    Once you create an application, you may apply for any open position with the PCS system. To apply for the bus driver job search jobs, select "Non-instructional Support/ Bus Driver" and click on "View/Apply" followed by clicking on "Apply for this job" you will receive an email confirmation that you have successfully applied.
     
    When you apply for this job, your application and the driver's license number provided will be forwarded to the state department to request a driving history report. You must have five years verifiable DMV history, if not within the state of Florida, we will try to assist you with the out of state DMVs history report.

  • Step Two

     Pre-Employment/DOT - Walter Pownall Service Center

     

    Directions 

     

    Once we process the application and run a DMV check which requires a review of the last five years of your driving record, we will contact you for pre-employment screening.

    These take place in the morning and you are required to watch a presentation on the hiring process, complete and pass a dexterity test, complete and pass a drug screening. Please dress comfortably, you will be on a school bus upon completion of your presentation and testing. You will be given a date and time to report to a Bay Care facility to complete your DOT physical. (You will receive written information on the exact location).  

     

  • Step Three

    Fingerprinting - PCS Administration Building

    Driving our school children is a huge responsibility, and we take it very seriously. Beyond the five-year driving report record, you'll be required to provide your fingerprints for an FBI clearance background check* the report cost $49.75. The fingerprint fee must be paid before you schedule an appointment online. Process is done at our Administration Building at 301 4th street SW in Largo.
     
    On this report, anything involving your name, fingerprints, and/or social security number could come back on this report. We do cross-reference the report with the information you provide to determine eligibility of employment. 

     

  • Step Four

    Processing - PCS Administration Building

     
    Please be on time and allow for several hours and bring these items with you:
    • Drivers License
    • Social security Card
    • CDL Permit
    • A blank voided check (for direct deposit)
    • If you are a Vet, your DD214 form

     

     

  • Step Five

    Classroom - Coachman Compound on NE Coachman Rd, Clearwater

     Our classroom time will include all you need to know to become a Class B CDL school bus driver. You will be paid as a sub-driver @ 12.23/hr and the course will include one week of book work and three weeks of behind the wheel training. Upon completion of this course, you will have received a Class B CDL Driver license and your pay status will upgrade to a PINELLAS COUNTY SCHOOLS' SCHOOL BUS DRIVER @ 14.25/hr.
