  • Important News about Educator Certification

     

     

     

    Temporary Certificates: As of March 27, 2023, temporary certificates hold five years of validity. If you hold a temporary certificate issued between 2020-2022, the new expiration date is automatically applied, and you do not need to reapply or submit a fee.  

    General Knowledge Test: If a teacher has previously failed the General Knowledge Test while holding a Temporary Certificate and has 3 years of documented support, instruction, and has been rated “effective” or “highly effective”, the GK Test requirement may be waived under s. 1012.34. 

    Professional Education Test: A passing score on the Professional Education Test is waived if a teacher has all the following: 

    1. Completion of Professional Teacher Prep Coursework listed on their Statement of Eligibility 
    2. Completion of Professional Education Competency Program 
    3. Three Years of “effective” or higher while holding a temporary certificate 

     

    • General Knowledge Test requirement: The requirement of mastery of general knowledge shall be waived for an individual who has one failed attempt and has been provided 3 years of supports and instruction and who has been rated effective or highly effective under s.1012.34 for each of the last 3 years.

     

    • Professional Education Test requirement: Achievement of a passing score on the Professional Education Test is removed if the individual has documented ALL of the following:
      • Successful completion of Professional Preparation Coursework Requirement
      • Successful completion of Professional Education Competency Program
      • Three years of being rated effective or highly effective while holding a temporary certificate
