• Career & Technical Education: Temporary to Professional 

    District Certified Teacher Preparation Program

    Participant Qualifications

    This program is open to any career and technical education teacher issued a district certification based on their occupational experience. The program can be completed in as little as 14 months, but participants will have the entire five-year temporary certification period to complete all requirements. 

    Required Coursework

    • Teaching Methods (20 hours minimum)
    • Classroom Management (minimum 60 hours)
    • Assessment and Evaluation (minimum 20 hours)
    • Teaching Students with Disabilities (20 hours minimum)
    • Project Based Learning (minimum 60 hours)
    • Marzano Focused Model Overview (3 hours - PLN)
    • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL Strategies) (min 18 hours - PLN)

    Coursework Resources

    Required coursework is the responsibility of the new teacher and can be accessed through the resources below. The new teacher must notify the Human Resources Certification Team at certification@pcsb.org which resource below they intend to use and must provide proof of initial course registration within the first semester of employment.

    1. Florida Association of Career and Technical Educators (FACTE) https://facte.wildapricot.org/ Online courses through FACTE are at no-cost for FACTE members.
    2. Any Florida College or University vocational course that meets the CTE Teaches program course description and minimum hour requirement. These online courses will require tuition payment of approximately $1,800 – $2,200 to the institution for the entire series.
    3. Pinellas County Schools Transition to Teaching Program (TTT). These courses are taught in-person and cost approximately $1,600 for the entire series.

    Peer Mentoring

    Each new district certified teacher will be provided a Peer Teacher Mentor who is a veteran Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher. As much as possible, the mentor will be someone who teaches the same or similar course(s) as the participant and will provide support while in the program. Assignment, funding and compensation of the peer mentors will be the responsibility of the CTAE Department.
