Annually in the fall, the PSAT 8/9 is administered to all 8th grade students free of charge and the PSAT/NMSQT is administered to all 9th and 10th grade students free of charge. The revised SAT Suite of Assessments is a series of assessments that begins with the PSAT 8/9 and culminates with the SAT that serves as a college entrance exam. These assessments are a valuable tool for students to measure themselves against peers across the country, set goals for specific areas of academic improvement, and determine the most appropriate courses of rigor in which to engage. Other commonly shared reasons for students to sit for these assessments are: to begin to prepare for taking the SAT as a college entrance exam, to connect to colleges, and to gain access to scholarships.

Students in the 11th grade are strongly encouraged but not required to take the PSAT/NMSQT. The 11th grade year is the only year in which the PSAT results can lead to national merit and several other scholarship opportunities. Students who may be eligible for a fee waiver should request the waiver from their counselor in May of their 10th grade year.
