Pinellas County Schools is committed to providing our students with assessments that create opportunity for the student. Students can use their PSAT results to determine their academic goals and course selections; as well as link their PSAT results to a Khan Academy account for free, world-class personalized SAT Prep that is tailored to the skill level they have demonstrated on the PSAT. Register now for your free online account with the College Board to access your PSAT scores as soon as they become available! This is the same account you will use to access AP Exam and SAT scores, as well as access BigFuture activities.
PCS students have several opportuinties to take PSAT and SAT in school, from 8th grade through 12th grade. Students who participate in these school day assessments have the option to access results that include each question with the correct answer and their own answer. Access to the questions and answers allows students to see the types of questions they have mastered and which formats or topics they need to continue to practice. Additionally, the scores are aligned across the assessments so students can easily understand their annual growth. For these reasons, students should take advantage of each and every opportunity to take a PSAT and SAT in school. The assessments provided for all PCS students include the following:
- 8th Grade: PSAT 8/9 in October
- 9th Grade: PSAT/NMSQT in October
- 10th Grade: PSAT/NMSQT in October
- 11th Grade: PSAT/NMSQT in October & SAT in March
The SAT Suite of Assessments is a series of assessments serves as a standardized measfure for college admissionas and they are a valuable tool for students to measure themselves against peers across the country, set goals for specific areas of academic improvement, and determine the most appropriate courses of rigor in which to engage. Other commonly shared reasons for students to sit for these assessments are to connect to colleges and gain access to scholarships.
Students in the 11th grade are strongly encouraged but not required to take the PSAT/NMSQT. The 11th grade year is the only year in which the PSAT results can lead to national merit and several other scholarship opportunities. Students who may be eligible for a fee waiver should request the waiver from their counselor in May of their 10th grade year.
Home school students may take the PSAT/NMSQT in a centralized location. The fee for Home School and other non-PCS students to take PSAT/NMSQT, which pays for the assessment and the proctor, is $30 per student (non-refundable) and is payable via credit card using the payment link.
