• Disabled-Dependent Children Over Age 26 - Coverage and Eligibility:

You may elect available coverage for your eligible dependents, including:

    • Your children, including natural, foster, step, legally adopted children, children proposed for adoption, and children for whom you have been appointed permanent legal guardian.

    • Your eligible children can be covered under a PCS medical, dental, and/or vision plan through the end of the calendar year in which they reach age 26, regardless of marital, financial, or student status.

    Handicapped Dependents:

There is no age limitation for an unmarried handicapped dependent child provided the following requirements are met:

    • The dependent must be chiefly dependent upon the employee for support, maintenance, and be incapable of self-support due to mental or physical incapacity, either of which commenced prior to reaching a limiting age.

    • The dependent has continuous coverage under a Pinellas County Schools group health insurance plan up until the end of the year when they turn 26.

    • The employee must submit proof of the handicapped dependent’s condition and eligibility to the Risk Management and Insurance Department and the appropriate health plan(s) no later than 31 days after the end of the year in which the dependent reaches a limiting age. These forms may be submitted prior to the end of the year so that there can be approval before the termination date of the plan. Some providers may require specific forms or specific information that we have not listed here. See forms and information below.
